Mil: The Year In Review
How was 2005 for you?
It was a year of many changes. I move on from 2004 and stayed in Kl for the second-half of the year. I learned a lot in my 6-months-job and gained friggin lot in terms of experience. Got a "decent"result in SPM, enough for me to coughed into TARC, and never look backed, i guessed. New friends, new enviroment, new subjects....its fun. But of course, i missed Penang and my friends and family out there.
What was the highlight of 2005 and why?
Basically, there aren't anything very very exciting things I can think of, but getting a good CGPA for the first sem is for one. Good grades had eluded me for years. Gathering with my family and friends back in Penang had also been fun. Staying abroad do makes u think of ur love one back there.
What was the lowest point of 2005 and why?
I think is the day I recieved SPM results. At first, there was nothing, no hapiness and no sadness. But looking at my friends who, most of them, passed with flying colours, I suddenly had a freaky feeling that this was not a year to enjoy. How wrong I am..hah!
What had changed since the start of the year?
Well, there had been a great change this year, as in switching from one enviroment to another. From Penang to KL, from high school to college, from house to hostel, from good Chinese food to to Mamak.....its had been a year of thousand changes, really. My thoughts and perceptions changed a lot. I started to realised, after receiving SPM results, that my life is not going to be somthing to do with science and maths and technology. Screw science(except Social Science tho)...I wonder: why people must struggle to keep up with the myth that science stream student had prosper while art stream students do not. That is not the case really. The important thing in life is of course do what you enjoy most and what you are interested in, not just fulfill people's demand on you. Get a life. People will never get satisfied with expectations.
What you learned and found out in 2005?
Well, I learned a lot, and i seriously meant a lot of things in 2005. Changes brings a lot of new things, and you have to learn to adapt to it. For the first-half of 2005, I was holding to a, what I thought, is an underpaid job. There, was the first time I experience the toughness of society. Prejudice, discrimination, conformity and politics...bla bla bla bla...list goes on. Here I learned to coped with stress, and this ain't some study stress or somthing. Its a pressure and a situation of make-or-break. Get promoted or get fired. Thats when I realised that study stress is nothing compare to it. and, to be frank, I think exam stress is nothing compared to it. In the second-half of 2005, I learned friggin lot of new things, which of course, its my new road to future. Social science, counselling, psychology and sociology, everything is sooo new for an ex-biology, physics, chemistry and maths nerd like me. Apart from that, I learned a lot from my friends about social life and the importance of updates and places you need to know. Take for example, I din take notice of shops like Body Shop, Lovely Lace and even Sub and Padini. Now I know a lot better. Zouk, Orange and Rush? Aint in my dictionary before that. For now, I am still in the process of learning and experimenting and researching a more meaningful life other than study and play football games on my PC.
If you had to make wishes for 2006, what would it be?
Hmm....first of all, I wish I had a better year than 2005, obviously. I wish good health for my friends and family. I wish to achieved more in studies. I wished my friends rock on. I wish that I can find a partner that can share everything with me. I wish a better luck for me next year..I seriously needed it. I wish my dad can find a job. I wish my sister to be sucessful in studies. I wish hapiness for my mom. Last of all, I wish peace for the world.

A slimmer sized digi cam,
So I can take pictures wherever I go (without driving too much attention, heh.)
Oh, if dear Santa can manage...please do send me some great movies on DVDs, a brand new laptop, a iPod, an enhanced E398 with a ROKR version and oh, a girl I would like to hang and be with.

Race and Ethnicity
Well, actually its not the race that has set us apart, its ethnicity. Accoding to sociology defination of race, Race is socially composed people who share biologically transmitted traits while ethnicity is shared cultural heritage. For this main reason, some of us cannot assomilate ourselves in. Lets see why.
Language(or should we say dialect) speaking, Chinese in KL mostly speak Cantonese. And of course, students who are from abroad or dunno to speak the dialect seems to miss out a lot. We Chinese had a bad habit of speaking our own languages or dialects when other friends of difference race and ethnicity is around. One of my Indian friend told me that was frustrating as it is like threating him as an out-group. Well, I do feel for him as somtimes my friends wags on with a topic in Cantonese and I am there eating sand.
Then again, it somehow provokes u to brush up ur Cantonese, but to some certain extend, it still frustrates u. Then, there are many types of chinese u can find here, lets see some examples.
First of all, there are Chinese who we call the typical Chinese. Speaks, wear and walk like Chinese, which speaks only Mandarin and dialects, full stop. Yup, in classes, is sympathic to see them struggle. But, elsewhere, there are the ones who talks the most. These, as we labelled them, are called the typical Ah Beng and Ah Lian type.
Then, there is the, we called Banana type, that is the opposite of the Ah Beng type. Basically, they will fair well in classes and studies, but struggles in the Chinese-majority society. However, many of my friends which are catogorized here seems to pick up Mandarin and other dialects frigginly fast, which impressed me. Perhaps, maybe its easier to pick up ur own mother tongue than foriegn languages(that explains the situations of the typical chinese type.)
The third group, is the middle of the two types catogorized above. Basically, they can mix with both groups and other races as well. This group, however, ranged variably. There are people who are bilingual, trilingual and so on. So, the more languages and dialects u can speak, the more advantage u are obviously. I got friends who can speak almost anything, from Mandarin, Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka, Malay and has a good command of English and also some Tamil, blah blah..Damn, where the heck they find time to learn so many languages huh?
So basically, to survive well in KL and TARC, the basic recommendation of language u need to noe is English, Mandarin and the Cantonese dialect. Prior to the open day of TARC today, I would like to advice to-be-students here to brush up their language skills in order to....well, live well?

Presentations....Again
Oh well, when are presentations going to end? It seems like the job of an undergraduate is...complete assignments and present.
But then again....
A big posibility y i m complaining now is because i have been following the norms(or should we call it trend?) of a typical student....
Doing last minute work.
Why? Dunno la..probably it gives the steam-pack feeling when it comes to last minute..or else u won't even care to exercise ur brain cells...
Well, anyway, here's a gist on the presentation in our social psychology...
Rewinding back to the nite before the presentation..

Most of us will be probably hiding behind this model of white new version idiot box...to prepare our script and doing last minute arrangements on our assignments...(of course, for those who got laptops and LCDs, u can't (i mean hiding) do that...heh)
Anyway, turning to the front of the screen....

Like...What the Heck? Doing assignments? Well, i need to chill out maa(excuses, excuses)...jz play a while oni(2 hours...hmm...a while...)...will continue later( yeah, probably the next location is on the bed)...
Aniway, to keep every senses occupied with activities, I included things like....

Yes...this is to make u wide awake(or isit to make u sleep faster, nvm)...so that u will continue till midnite...
Enough preparations I think...now fastforwarding to the next day...
These are the few students who willingly( or some maybe unwillingly) to start of with their presentations....

Most are well prepared..as we saw people using OHPs, cue cards and of course, their talented mouth to make an impression on the lecturer...
While thier groupmembers are doing the presentations....

.... the others stand patiently(or impatiently) to wait for their turns...of course, it makes u nervous when you are waiting...
Fast forwarding to a particular group, I would like to highlight on one of the presenter here....
Thsi is Mr. Jan...probably the best presenter in our class....well, dunno why...no matter how blur he may look in his preparations, he still managed to pull a good show...he's spontaneous for one and very fluent...not the common " ahh...., la....lo..." type..have since gain attention whenever he is presentating, in a proper way, that is ...unlike some people who uses informal ways to get attention...aniway, good job, we sincerely enjoy ur style....
This is probably the best atmosphere to be in when u are having presentations...
Yeah...poeple are attending to ur presentations...somehow, u felt the confidence they gave u....so keep up that attitude guys, we need each other's support.
So, thats all for a mere sneak on our presentations...will bring to u more on that...after people are willing to repeat the process next week. Stay tuned

Tribute to a fighter
To begin with, they are now 10 games unbeaten and gained it without any reply? What does that tell u? That they are becoming stronger....so, Manchester who?
Anyway, second they are in EPL and in the verge of last 16 in the European champions League..
whereas the other red side...some particular team called Red Syaitan or something...crashed out of ECL..hmm...wat does that tell u? That dominance aint forever...
While Liverpool triumphed..we look at the other side....
Well, that explained it...BUT...
Football ain't predictable, there will be times when the two sides pictured above switching their reactions...
As I said, dominance ain't forever....
The same goes for the case of CLHS band....
They won the state level for Penang Band Concert..but unfortunately they go down on national level..due to some so called...er hum..judgemental technical problem or something...and da...Jit Sin won anyway..
And pleease, my dear friends, don't get too dissapointed..
I repeat, dominance aint forever
So keep working hard!
One day, as a true fighter, we will get what we deserved and what we are supposed to attain..
as long as..we never give up and fight for it!
Be brave, be strong, be proud, we fight....
